Brentford Women dominated their London derby on Sunday, routing Millwall 6-0 in the London and South East Premier at Bedfont Sports Club.
Asees Sangha gave Brentford a perfect opening, slotting home midway through the first half, and Ashley Cheatley doubled the lead just before the break. Cheatley then completed a hat-trick in the second half, while Renai McCrea and Khyri McKenzie added one goal apiece to seal the victory for Carly Williams’ side.
The Bees began the match strongly, showing confident build-up play that sliced through Millwall’s press in the opening 15 minutes, though they couldn’t convert their chances in the final third. Brentford also pressed aggressively off the ball, often forcing turnovers and denying Millwall comfortable possession.
The deadlock finally broke in the 25th minute when Sangha’s deft lob found the net after goalkeeper Wiktoria Gmiterek came off her line and failed to clear. Her shot found the space behind Gmiterek, making it 1-0.
Two minutes later Cheatley nearly doubled the lead with a left-foot strike that struck the side netting. On the 30th minute, Cheatley did move Brentford further ahead. Habeebat Gbajabiamila drove forward on the right flank and delivered a precise cross, meeting Cheatley at the near post for a tidy finish to make it 2-0.
Brentford continued to press after the break, looking to extend their advantage. Chelsie Berry nearly mimicked Sangha’s earlier lob, but the ball sailed over.
Millwall had their best moment when Elsa Ejupi found space behind Brentford’s defense and faced Bees keeper Sophie Boycott one-on-one, though her shot missed the target.
Early in the second half, a contentious moment arose when McKenzie was fouled in the box on 50 minutes. The assistant flagged for a foul, and the penalty was awarded. Cheatley’s penalty was saved by Gmiterek, who stayed rooted as the ball remained in play.
Disappointment didn’t last long for Cheatley, as she soon found the net again. Under pressure, she kept the ball alive with her right foot, then drilled a left-footed strike from the edge of the box into the top-right corner to complete a 3-0 lead.
Cheatley almost claimed a fourth moments later after a flick-on from McKenzie’s long-range effort, but Millwall cleared it.
Valerie Abu’s header from a corner presented Millwall’s best late chance of the hour, but the effort bounced off a teammate and was cleared.
With 20 minutes to play, Brentford intensified again, scoring twice in four minutes. Renai McCrea’s left-footed cross bounced awkwardly in the box, leaving Gmiterek unable to react as the ball slipped into the net for 4-0.
Two minutes later Cheatley completed her hat-trick by racing in behind the back line, finishing calmly in the keeper’s near post.
Khyri McKenzie then capped the scoring, rifling home from the edge of the box to make it 6-0.
The result lifts Brentford to the top of the table on 28 points, three clear of Saltdean United, who have two games in hand.
